Last Summer – the Summer of 2020, we enjoyed a few weeks at the beautiful seaside town of South West Rocks. We stayed right on the beach front at Horseshoe Beach Caravan Park and had a great few weeks with our friends Chris & Ross McGuigan – yes that’s a McGuigan related to McGuigan Wines.
We had access to all the essential facilities which included free wifi. The amenities including the laundry were really well maintained. Nearby is a public barbecue area, including a playground, a great local kiosk serving delicious ice cream. Local restaurants and cafes are all conveniently located just meters outside the caravan park.
We loved the gelato though from Chillati Gelato which is situated at 31 Livingstone Street, just down the bottom of the hill. Our friends Donna & Paul own this business. The amazing thing is that we actually met Donna & Paul when we were in Milan Itlay in 2019. Now, through our love of travel we are so fortunate to have met a really beautiful couple who live not far from us and this allows us to visit them often when we venture up the coast.
On the way up the coast we made sure that we stopped in at Ricardos Tomatoes and Strawberries and had the experience and pleasure of picking our own plump, and delicious strawberries. does is really easy to find as it located just ten minutes north of Port Macquarie. Tall strawberry vines climb up beside the tomato houses and, armed with a bucket we picked heaps of strawberries, which we then had weighed and bagged to take away, but not before having a coffee and cake at the café and also purchasing some awesome strawberry jam.
We loved our stay at South West Rocks as it offers so many things to do there. A worthy visit is to Trial Bay Gaol which is a heritage-listed former public works prison and internment camp and is situated in Cardell Street Arakoon. Trial Bay Gaol campground is right by the beach and perfect for a family camping holiday. Bring your caravan, motorhome or tent for a weekend of swimming, fishing and fun (but leave the dogs or family pets behind as this is a National Park )
South West Rocks has some great eateries, whether that be for breakfast, a quick bit for lunch at a cafe or bakery or of course most towns have an awesome pub meal. We love the Seabreeze Beach Hotel which is literally a stones throw away from Horseshoe Beach Caravan Park. So an easy walk there and sometimes a good ‘ol stagger back to our caravan depending on the occasion. We have even stayed in the pub for one night, when we were travelling back to South West Rocks from Noosa (pre caravan)… so it has so much to offer.
We would love to here what you think on your caravan stay at South West Rocks.
